Rambling Observations of the
2006 NCS Reuben Award Weekend

May 26 - 30, 2006

Don Wimmer (cartoonist extraordinaire), Cathy Wimmer (cartoonist wife extraordinaire), Kelley Land (most tolerant lawyer extraordinaire) and myself (extra air) dressed to the nines and posing before the now traditionally unexplainable foliage prior to the 60th Reuben Awards.

Jeff Keane & Bil Keane (The Family Circus) weren't too embarrassed to be seen with me (it's amazing how far a saw buck can take you these days). It was easy to track them down for this photo op as they both leave a trail of dashed lines wherever they roam. Cute, yes, but the housekeeping staff was not amused.

Kelley & I standing in front of the anorexic "Kate Moss" plant in the Renaissance Hotel. We're not being romantic. Kelley was trying to cop a feel of my boob and I had to stop her. Someone had to be in control! (Why does she keep coming to these things with me? Seriously...I don't get it...)

Don & Charles celebrate "Open Bar"...
...a beloved NCS tradition since prohibition.

Editorial Cartoonist Bill LaRocque happily posed for a picture with me. For the life of me I can't understand why. Bill is the treasurer of the NCS DC Chapter and I am the Chair of the Orange County CA Chapter. You're yawning, aren't you? That's OK. We're not impressed, either.

My dessert. Yes, I took a picture of my dessert. I am diabetic, I've had a heart attack and I've had two stents piggy-backed in my chest. This is as close to the real thing as I can get nowadays. I like to think of this as "food porn". Oh, yea, baby...melt for me niiiice and sloooow....

My God, but we're adorable.
